Cathedral Creatures

Meet the Cathedral Creatures - An opportunity to hear about all unusual animals and beasts lurking inside Ely Cathedral and find out what they represent and why they are there.

This coming bank holiday, Monday 29 May, Ely Cathedral are seeking help from young adventurers to take part in a special trail to discover all the wonderful and exciting mythical creatures that hide in the stonework and have made Ely Cathedral their home for hundreds of years.

This event will include lively and stimulating workshops in the Lady Chapel, plus an opportunity to discover a whole host of fantastical residents of the Cathedral from mermaids to imps and from flying horses to dragons.

Philippa Stevens, Director of Learning at Ely Cathedral says “We can’t wait to introduce the fantastical creatures that make Ely Cathedral their home including our very own Cathedral Dragon who resides in the Lady Chapel ! This very special dragon will soon be taking a starring role in a new multi-media guide for children and families – but we need help to discover more about our dragon by thinking creatively about its character, discovering the perfect name and other key things like what it might like to eat and how it can fly“.

There are two ‘Meet the Cathedral Creatures’ sessions at 10.30am and again at 2.30pm. They are free to attend but places will be limited. Those living in CB6 or CB7 areas have free entry to the Cathedral. Any adults not eligible for free entry will need to pay the standard Cathedral admission charge. There is no charge for under children under16. No need to book but further information can be found at www.elycathedral.org
